Have you ever thought you will build a rocket company if you own huge money?
As space fans, you and I want but probably we don’t because all of us know: the rocket is an extremely hard problem.
This even SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has recently admitted:
“I mean it’s a very hard uh engineering problem you need a lot of uh advancements in the on the engines the airframe the heat shield and all of the technologies that go into the rocket. in order to have it be reusable but still get payload to orbit. right getting to space is easy. Right. but getting to orbit is a hundred times harder than getting to space really.”

This is also not the first time Musk has talked about this. In 2020, Elon Musk offers sympathy for a rocket failure and said: “Sorry to hear that. I’m sure you’ll figure it out though. Took us four launches to reach orbit. Rockets are hard.”
But what exactly why?

We’ll need to look at some private rocket companies and even NASA, so, remember to watch this video till the end:

Let’s go directly to the case of SpaceX first:
Yeah, we’re all too familiar with SpaceX’s schedule delays.
Honestly, with Musk, “Designing a rocket is trivial. There are tons of books. You read them. You understand equations. You design a rocket… The design is not hard. The making of it is hard. The making of a production line that builds and launches many is extremely hard. And the next level beyond that would be creating a fully reusable system, and having that in volume production and launch. That’s super, super hard.”

This proved especially true with Raptor.
For initial test flights, SpaceX will use 33 Raptor engines to power the Super Heavy first stage and six on the Starship upper stages. So, for each test flight that either end in the ocean, with a fiery landing, or with a vehicle that can’t be reused, the company will lose 39 Raptor engines. That is a staggering amount of engines, both in terms of cost and lost production time.
